Annapurna Expedition 2026 Latest Update
Table of contents [Show]
Current Status
Annapurna expeditions are currently the most advanced among all peaks in Nepal for the Spring 2026 season.
Teams have completed the first acclimatization rotation, reaching approximately Camp 2 (around 5,500 meters). Climbers have spent nights at both Camp 1 and Camp 2 and have now returned to base camp for recovery.
Base Camp and upper route activity during early season rotations
Route Progress
- Camps 1 and 2 are established and in regular use
- Load ferry operations between camps are ongoing
- Fixed rope installation has started but is not yet complete above Camp 2
Sherpa teams are currently working on securing the route higher on the mountain, but progress is slow due to snow conditions.
Weather and Conditions
Current conditions on Annapurna are unstable:
- Continuous snowfall in recent days
- Weak snowpack formation
- Increased avalanche exposure, especially above Camp 1
Heavy snow accumulation affecting route safety
These factors are delaying further movement toward higher camps.
Achievements So Far
- Successful establishment of Base Camp
- First full rotation completed by multiple teams
- Climbers reaching Camp 2 early in the season
- Initial route fixing underway
At this stage, Annapurna shows the most progress among Nepal expeditions.
What Has Not Happened Yet
- No teams have reached Camp 3
- No summit pushes have started
- Route to higher camps is not fully secured
Outlook
Teams are expected to begin the next rotation once weather stabilizes. Progress toward Camp 3 and above will depend on snow conditions and avalanche risk.
The main summit window is still expected in May 2026, assuming route preparation can be completed safely.
